The Fullest, Warmest, Most Golden Season: A Fall Equinox Reflection

Sep 1, 2026 | Storytelling

The fall equinox is my favorite day of the year.

It isn’t dramatic. There are no long shadows of Beltane fires or the hush of the winter solstice. The autumn equinox is silent in comparison, equal parts day and night, a moment of perfect balance before the dark half of the year begins to lean forward. But it is a day I look forward to, because it means my favorite season has fully arrived.

I love autumn the way some people love summer or the sound of the ocean. I love the color of it, the gold and rust and burnt orange that shows up nowhere else in the wheel of the year. The cooling air after a long, hot summer. The return of pumpkin everything, which I will defend without a single hint of irony. The cozy traditions that autumn seems to invite: sweaters, candles, and slower evenings.

Balance Before Abundance

The equinox itself carries a lesson. Equal day and equal night. A moment of genuine balance in a year that rarely offers one. Spring’s equinox tips us toward growth and light. This one tips us toward rest and reflection. But for one single day, everything is in perfect equilibrium.

I think about that balance often in the context of my work. The push and pull between client projects and my own creative work. Between the structure a business needs and the flow creativity requires. Between showing up consistently and allowing space to rest. The equinox reminds me that balance isn’t something you achieve once and keep forever. You return to, again and again, the way the earth returns to this exact point twice a year without fail.

What Full Harvest Feels Like

If Lughnasadh in August was the first harvest, September is when the abundance becomes undeniable. This is the season of full harvest, when everything that has been growing all year finally shows itself in totality. The gardens are heavy. The color is everywhere. There is a fullness to this time of year that feels almost generous, like the earth is handing you more than you asked for.

That fullness extends beyond the literal harvest too. This is a season of gratitude for me, for the abundance in both business and life. For projects that grew from small ideas into real things. For relationships that deepened. For the personal wins that remind you the hard seasons were worth moving through.

The Season of Anticipation

There is something else autumn brings that no other season quite matches: anticipatory joy. The thrill of a season that is not just good in itself but is also the doorway to everything coming after it. Football season returns. The holidays begin their slow approach. The year starts gathering itself toward its final, most celebratory stretch.

I love living inside that anticipation as much as I love the season itself. Autumn asks you to be fully present in its color and its harvest while also letting yourself feel excited about what’s still ahead. That is its own kind of balance too.

Tending Your Own Harvest

Wherever you are as autumn arrives, I hope you take a moment to notice your own harvest. Notice whatever balance you found, even briefly and the abundance that showed up in ways you didn’t expect.

Happy autumn. Welcome to the fullest, warmest, most golden season of the year.
